Bite by Night beginner guide - how to survive your first night

Bite by Night Roblox fan guide - Last updated 2026-07-19

TL;DR

Bite by Night is an asymmetric survival horror game on Roblox. Four Survivors power every generator on the map and escape by 6:00 AM. One player-controlled Killer tries to eliminate all four Survivors before the clock runs out. You earn Scraps by playing and spend a fixed amount to unlock characters. There is no spin, box, or luck system. Start free with The Rotten and the Customer, then save 800 Scraps for the Medic.

Bite by Night is a FNAF-style horror round set on a dark map with a ticking clock. If you have played other asymmetric horror games, the shape will feel familiar: a team of Survivors races objectives while one hunter tries to shut them down. This guide covers the basics you need for your first night, whether you load in as a Survivor or take the Killer slot.

Nothing here depends on luck or paid unlocks. Every character is bought with Scraps you earn by playing, and the cost of each one is fixed. That means your progress is about time and skill, not random draws. For the full roster and costs, see the character list and the detailed ability breakdown.

How a match works

A round is a race against the clock. Four Survivors and one Killer load into the map, and the night runs toward 6:00 AM.

That single objective, power the generators and escape by 6 AM, is the heart of every night. Everything else you do, from routing through lit rooms to timing your ability, serves that goal.

Controls and basics

Bite by Night uses standard Roblox movement, so you can jump in without a long tutorial. Move with your normal controls, interact with a generator to start its puzzle, and trigger your character ability when you need it. Your class ability is the tool you will reach for most, so learn where it lives on your control layout before you get chased. Spend your first match getting comfortable with movement and the generator interaction rather than trying to win outright.

Survivor fundamentals

Most players start on the Survivor side. Your job is to power generators as a team and stay alive until you can escape. These habits keep you useful and hard to catch.

  1. 1

    Stick with a teammate

Bite by Night is a four-Survivor team game, and a lone Survivor is the easiest target. Pair up so one of you can keep working a generator while the other watches for the Killer. Two players near a generator also finish it faster than one.

  2. 2

    Route through lit rooms

Dark corridors hide the Killer and make it easy to get cornered. Favour lit rooms and open sightlines when you move between objectives so you spot the Killer early and have somewhere to run.

  3. 3

    Work the generators as mini-puzzles

Each generator is a short puzzle you complete to power it. Powering every generator on the map is what unlocks your escape. Do not start a generator you cannot finish. If the Killer is close, leave it and come back with a teammate.

  4. 4

Break line of sight when chased

If the Killer commits to you, put walls and corners between you. Breaking line of sight forces the Killer to guess your path and often buys enough time for a teammate to keep the generators moving.

  5. 5

    Use your class ability

Every Survivor has a kit. The Medic heals allies, the Security Guard tracks the Killer with a Taser and Cams, the Fighter can stun the Killer to peel a teammate off a chase, the Technician phases through highlighted walls and drops a Static Mirage trap that slows the Killer, and the Customer heals with food and drink. Learn your class and use its ability to buy time, not to fight the Killer head-on.

Killer fundamentals

If you draw the Killer slot, you are one player against four. You cannot be everywhere, so pressure and map control matter more than winning any single chase.

  1. 1

Patrol for coverage, do not tunnel one target

You win by stopping all four Survivors from powering the generators before 6 AM. Chasing a single Survivor across the whole map lets the other three finish objectives. Patrol between generators so you apply pressure everywhere.

  2. 2

Use your kit to create pressure

The Rotten sets a bear trap and throws an axe that causes bleed and slow. The Project switches between Strength, Speed, and Stealth modes to fit the situation. Ennard can disguise as an eliminated Survivor to catch the team off guard. Pick the pressure your kit is built for instead of relying on raw chase.

  3. 3

Guard the generators, not the corners

Generators are where Survivors have to stand still. Circling powered and unpowered generators near each other lets you interrupt progress and force Survivors off objectives without committing to a long chase.

How Scraps and unlocks work

Scraps are the only currency in Bite by Night. You earn them by playing matches, and you spend a fixed number to unlock a character. There is no spin, box, gacha, or luck involved, and no drop rates to chase. What a character costs is what it costs, so you always know exactly how far you are from your next unlock.

Everyone starts with two free characters: The Rotten on the Killer side and the Customer on the Survivor side. Both are enough to learn the game, so do not feel rushed to buy anything on night one. When you are ready to upgrade, the cheapest option is the Medic Survivor at 800 Scraps, which adds team healing and makes your squad much harder to wipe.

Redeem codes for Scraps

Codes give you free Scraps, which speed up your first unlock. As of July 2026 there are no active codes, but the developers release them from time to time. To redeem one, open Settings with the gear icon, scroll to the bottom, enter the code in the Code box, and press Redeem. Codes are case-sensitive, so type them exactly. Check the codes page for the live list before you assume a code is expired.

Common first-night mistakes

These are the errors that cost new players the most rounds, on both sides of the match.

Mistake: Soloing a generator with the Killer nearby

Fix: If the Killer is close, do not commit to a generator alone. Reposition with a teammate or bait the Killer away first, then return to finish the puzzle.

Mistake: Splitting up too far as Survivors

Fix: Four Survivors spread across the whole map are easy to pick off one by one. Stay in loose pairs so someone can peel or heal when the Killer commits.

Mistake: Tunneling a single Survivor as the Killer

Fix: Chasing one player forever lets the other three power generators. Break off and patrol coverage so the whole team feels pressure.

Mistake: Spending Scraps randomly

Fix: Unlock costs are fixed, so plan your first purchase. The Medic at 800 Scraps is the cheapest upgrade and adds team healing. Save toward the character whose kit fits how you like to play.

Mistake: Fighting the Killer head-on

Fix: Survivor abilities are for buying time, not winning duels. Use stuns, traps, and line of sight to escape and keep generators moving.

Beginner FAQ

What is the goal in Bite by Night?

Bite by Night is an asymmetric survival horror game. Four Survivors work together to power all of the generators around the map and escape before the clock reaches 6:00 AM. The single player-controlled Killer wins by eliminating every Survivor before 6 AM.

How do you unlock characters in Bite by Night?

You earn Scraps by playing matches, then spend a fixed number of Scraps to unlock a character. There is no spin, box, gacha, or luck mechanic. Everyone starts with The Rotten (Killer) and the Customer (Survivor) for free, and the cheapest upgrade is the Medic Survivor at 800 Scraps.

What should a new Survivor do first?

Stick close to a teammate, move through lit rooms, and start on a generator. Generators are mini-puzzles, so do not solo one when the Killer is nearby. Break line of sight if you get chased, and use your class ability to buy time. Powering generators as a group is how Survivors escape by 6 AM.
